HOLLYWOOD COULDN’T WRITE A SCRIPT THIS GOOD

6:00 AM MONDAY 2.8.2010  KAHUNA UPDATE # 1: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, another major winter storm is in the Mid-Atlantic pipeline. Ready for Snowpocalypse 2.0? With Winter Storm Watches and Warnings now stretching 2,230 miles from New Jersey westward to Utah. The Forecast Team expects snowfall by 7 PM Wednesday to reach or exceed 12 inches along the I-95 corridor from Baltimore north to Philadelphia as well as southeastern PA. We expect many locally higher amounts near 20“. NOAA’s HPC Snow & Ice Team has already throw the B-word into the mix. The Philadelphia metro NWS office is using the phrase “explosively developing.” Just so you know.

Visit the new KahunaCast Zone for details on storm timing and impacts, with lead collaborators Ryan K. and Winterman. See the Winter Stormcast Zone snowfall projections ideas and experimental data. Our storm grade amounts: Monday 3 PM.

WINTER STORM WATCH/WARNINGS

LIQUID EQUIVALENTS GFS 72-hour | NAM 72-hour | SREF 72-hour

If you live in the Mid-Atlantic between PA Interstate 80 and US Route 40, in preparation for Tuesday night, do whatever you can to clear your lot or parking area or just help your neighbors do the same. Current computer model trends will likely surprise you at the minimum and terrify you at the maximum.
IN THE COMMENTS, WE WELCOME YOUR RESPONSE TO…
(1) Any safety tips and procedures you have created or find useful in situations like this, regarding snow removal, home management, power outages, etc.
(2) If you are annoyed about where to put it all NOW, explain where school systems will  put another 6-12 inches+ by Wednesday afternoon.
(3) A painful lesson for school districts which do not study or appreciate the risks of what happens when a strong El Nino pattern is combined with high snowcover.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen all day in this snow…the stream behind my house still flowing and surrounded by snow.
